Since 1988, the Kansas Association of REALTORS® Honor Society has recognized and rewarded the high professional achievement of members who seek excellence through education, who voluntarily contribute their expertise, and who voluntarily contribute their time and skills to Board and Association leadership.


Applications for the Honor Society's next class are due to KCRAR by June 15 to be considered. KCRAR will then submit qualified candidates to KAR by July 1.

EPA's New Renovation, Repair and Painting Rule


Common home renovation activities like sanding, cutting, and demolition can create hazardous lead dust and chips by disturbing lead-based paint, which can be harmful to adults and children.

To protect against this risk, on April 22, 2008, EPA issued a rule requiring the use of lead-safe practices and other actions aimed at preventing lead poisoning.
REALTORS® should make themselves aware of the requirements in this Lead Renovation, Repair and Painting (RRP) Rule.

Got Phones? Donate Them to Cell Phones for Soldiers


Cell Phones for Soldiers is a national charity that hopes to turn old cell phones into more than 12 million minutes of prepaid calling cards for U.S. troops stationed overseas. Since December 2008, KCRAR has collected more than 100 cell phones for Cell Phones for Soldiers.

This year, a special thanks goes to Rebecca Creek, an agent with Prudential Kansas City Realty! Rebecca spearheaded the collection of almost 50 cell phones from her office colleagues.

MHDC Offering Two Down Payment Assistance Programs for Homebuyers


On May 29, the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) announced that first-time homebuyers may now use the $8,000 federal tax credit for down payment and closing costs. Borrowers receiving an advance loan through an FHA-approved lender must use a governmental program such as MHDC's Tax Credit Advance Loan (TCAL) program or the buyer will still have to contribute 3.5% of his/her own money toward the down payment.

A second, newer program being offered by MHDC is the Neighborhood Stabilization Down Payment Assistance program.

Tax Credit Guidance for FHA Loans


The details of a program that allows borrowers to use the first-time homebuyer tax credit for a down payment or closing costs on a FHA-insured mortgage were announced Friday, May 29.
