Cell Phones for Soldiers is a national charity that hopes to turn old cell phones into more than 12 million minutes of prepaid calling cards for U.S. troops stationed overseas. Since December 2008, KCRAR has collected more than 100 cell phones for Cell Phones for Soldiers.

This year, a special thanks goes to Rebecca Creek, an agent with Prudential Kansas City Realty! Rebecca spearheaded the collection of almost 50 cell phones from her office colleagues.

As KCRAR’s office liaison for Prudential, Rebecca was reading Realeyes Online Update when she noticed the article soliciting donations for Cell Phones for Soldiers. She spoke to her broker, Kathy Copeland, and said she felt strongly about the issue. A presentation at the office’s weekly Tuesday meeting at Kathy’s suggestion helped Rebecca spread the word about this important cause.

“I saw it as a way to do two things: help our soldiers overseas connect with their families, and help our environment,” Rebecca said. “This ensures the cell phones don’t end up in landfills.”

The phones are sent to ReCellular, which pays Cell Phones for Soldiers for each donated phone – enough to provide an hour of talk time to soldiers abroad. ReCellular is a leading collector, reseller and recycler of used cell phones.

“When I get a task I just sink my teeth into it, and I decided I wanted to make our office be the greatest contributor (to Cell Phones for Soldiers),” Rebecca said. “It was an easy sell with our agents – an awesome way for them to help that didn’t cost anything. I took the phones to KCRAR and brought everyone back a donation receipt.”

Thanks again to Rebecca, Kathy and everyone else at Prudential Kansas City! Donations for Cell Phones for Soldiers are accepted year-round. For more information, visit www.cellphonesforsoldiers.com/.
