Thank you to Patti Gabrielse, COO/Broker at Realty Executives of Kansas City for this reminder that making showing appointments is related to your safety. Patti called the KCRAR office to report a recent incident that illustrates the point.
A coop agent failed to make a showing appointment even though the showing instructions indicated that it was necessary. Upon entering the listing, the agent and her buyers woke the homeowner, who was a day sleeper. He worked nights in law enforcement. Potentially, when awakened and startled by odd noises in his house, the situation could have turned dangerous because he was alarmed.
Alarming indeed.
While the seller in this instance was upset, no one was hurt. But surprises can be dangerous.
So please remember that in addition to being considerate of the seller and their agent, showing appointments are for your safety. Always make appointments when the instructions call for them.
