This year, the KCRAR Sunflower Region Committee under the leadership of Chairman Lee McClelland chose to make two voluntary contributions.

The Region donated $1,500 to Hands and Hearts for Children’s Mercy Hospital & Clinics. Hands and Hearts is an auxiliary group of volunteers who produce the hospital’s premiere fundraising event, “Red Hot Night,” which in 2010 will serve as a benefit for the Cancer Center at Children’s Mercy and pediatric cancer research.

Children’s Mercy averages nearly 170 new oncology diagnoses each year. The money raised this year will provide aid to establish a Phase I/II Clinical Trial Center, which will bring the hospital one step closer to enhancing its Children’s Oncology Group designation.

“The REALTOR® community in the Kansas City metropolitan area has always donated time, talent and support to many charities throughout the year,” said Jim Gamble, past president of Hands and Hearts and a KCRAR member. “I am thrilled that the Kansas City Regional Association of REALTORS® Sunflower Region chose to support Children’s Mercy Hands and Hearts this year. By supporting Hands and Hearts, you help ensure that each child being treated for cancer will have the hope for a brighter, healthier and happier future. Please join us in February 2010 for our sixth annual ‘Red Hot Night.’”

The Sunflower Region has also donated $1,000 to the REALTORS® Political Action Committee. RPAC is the voice for tens of thousands of REALTORS® and was established to help elect candidates supportive of the free enterprise system and private property rights.

“RPAC benefits our community and our business, and it is the privilege and duty of our members to support it,” said McClelland, who also serves as Treasurer for KCRAR.
